Coaching Staff Bios

Coach Rick Harper - High School Boys JV Head Coach

"I started playing lacrosse in fourth grade. My dad was the president of the boys club and he started the first lacrosse club in my area. That first year our team had 18 players ranging from 4th to 8th grade! I remember playing against a prep school with several of their players that drove to the game.

I played at Ridley HS then Wesley College in Delaware. At Wesley, we won the 1996 ECACChampionship, 1996 North/South and was an All American Nominee.

I have been coaching since 1996, Including: Wesley College, Dover HS, Highland Park HS and Southlake Carroll HS. While Coaching Wesley, we won the 1997 ECAC Championship. At Highland Park, we were 2-time State Semi Finalist and at Southlake had the 1st playoff win in program history.

As far as my coaching philosophy, I like to play fast, play physical and have fun. I love coaching and developing talent. Helping players obtain their goal of playing in college is awesome. I have coached over 25 players who have or are playing at a Division 1, 2, or 3 level.  Hopefully after their lacrosse playing career is over they will remember the life lessons that got them there.

Lacrosse is a great sport because to play there is not a stereotype that defines success. There are different positions each requiring a different skill set.

In terms of what makes a player successful, I look for someone that has a burning desire tocompete, if he has that I will find a spot for him. If you have that burning desire to compete you already have self motivation and have a good work ethic.

The goal for this year's team is to learn how to play the game of lacrosse.

Something you may not know about me…I was a pastry chef at a 5 star, 5 diamond resort in Las Vegas."

Coach Tara Musser - Head Girls High School Coach ""

"I started playing lacrosse in 8th grade in order to stay in shape for other sports. However, once I picked up a stick I couldn’t put it down. It quickly became my favorite sport. I played for Wooster High School and went on to play at the University of Toledo. As a captain at Toledo, I volunteered to assist start-up programs in the area. Eventually, I went on to coach at Hudson High School in Ohio. We had many girls go on after high school to play at all divisions in college.

I eventually moved to Colorado for work and took a break from lacrosse. I constantly missed being away from the sport. After moving to Texas I was very excited to learn about the Flower Mound program. I thank my lucky stars every day that I have been given another opportunity to coach my favorite sport and pass along my enthusiasm to these girls!

As far as my coaching philosophy, I believe that the greatest sense of achievement comes from accomplishing what you didn't think was possible. Whether that achievement is on the lacrosse field, at school or at home, my goal is to help my girls redefine what is possible in their lives. We will never reach perfection in anything we do, but we must always be striving for it nonetheless.

The fundamentals of the sport are obviously stressed, but my ultimate philosophy is to help everyone on the team be the best version of themselves on and off the field.  I enjoy coaching because I love the sport with a great passion and will always do everything I can to grow the sport and to help others gain the wonderful, life-enhancing experiences I have beenfortunate enough to enjoy.

I think lacrosse is a great sport because of the opportunities it presents, the athleticism, and it’s a fun team sport.

Lacrosse is a fantastic team sport offering players an opportunity to not only to learn about the sport but to take away life lessons. The discipline, respect, and work ethic that was taught to me from the game has proven to be invaluable beyond my lacrosse career into my professional career.  It has provided with the skill set to handle adversity that life has thrust upon me and has given me the strength and motivation to overcome any setback.

To be a successful lacrosse player, there is no substitute for heart, determination, and effort. At the high school level, you don't need superior athleticism or ball skills. What you MUST have, is a desire to be the best. You MUST give everything you have when you are in uniform. All players--all great players--make mistakes every game. Successful players must not be afraid of mistakes and must not be timid. Successful players see every loose ball, every shot, every defensive stand, as an individual opportunity to be the best. The beauty of it all is that even if you don't succeed, there's going to be another opportunity right around the corner. A successful lacrosse player will recognize each of these challenges, accept them, and face them down with ferocity while never considering potential failure. Effort is contagious and cannot be defeated.

The goal for our team this year is to establish a strong Girls High School program and have a lot of fun!

Something you may not know. While playing in college, we had many away games and tournaments which made it hard for our fan base to travel to these far-away places. Due to this, we named a stuffed Banana as our #1 fan. He was our good luck charm and never missed a game. His name is B1 from Bananas in Pajamas. He is now the traveling trophy for our fall season. A girl will be named MVP after every tournament and be given B1 to take home." ""
